Today breast cancer accounts for 23% of all cancer incidences worldwide. Despite their racial or ethnic origin or heritage, women are constantly at risk with more than 1.2 million positive cases annually. Having one of the highest incidences in the Asian region, breast cancer is the most common cancer form that affects Pakistani women.

According to the cancer registry in the major cities of the country, it is evident that breast cancer affects women belonging to different age brackets, it can affect a middle-aged woman as well as someone as young as 20 years of age. Unfortunately, due to other life-threatening diseases in the region, breast cancer does not get the status of a healthcare emergency, and awareness programs are either nonexistent or somewhat dysfunctional.

While women are increasingly at risk of breast cancer, they do not possess the basic skills to carry a breast self-exam at home and lack the knowledge about having regular check-ups. Since better awareness and early detection are linked to higher long-term survival rates, its importance cannot be emphasized enough. It is to be noted that prognosis and survival statistics of breast cancer are better in developed countries due to timely diagnosis and treatment while in countries with limited resources and awareness drives, most of the women present the metastatic or advanced stage that ultimately leads to poor outcomes.

‘Arvelon Cares’ is an initiative by Arvelon that aims to help the people of Pakistan and also give back to the community that has supported us every step of the way. During the month of October, being Breast cancer Awareness Month, Arvelon Cares aims to raise awareness and minimize the stigma related to breast cancer through an intensive educational drive that focuses on breast cancer signs and symptoms and its treatment.
